Every visit to Nashville includes plenty of perfect bourbon drinks. This trip was no exception. Making a list of required spots prior to hopping in the Uber from downtown paid off. I swung into 404 Kitchen but after seeing how formal and packed the upstairs restaurant was, I decided to sit downstairs at Gertie's Bar.

After a friendly hey, the bartender offered me a free old fashioned. A sweet surprise to sit down and be offered a free drink without cause. The whiskey brand reps from earlier that day left plenty of bottles of their newest small batch. The bartender was excited for any excuse to experiment with the bourbon. As an expert of Old Fashioned cocktails (drinking them at least), I didn't even need to think about this offer. This beauty in a double rocks glass arrived complete with a custom 404 ice stamp. It was smooth but strong with a lovely kick from the bitters and the orange oils. The best little decision of the day. Plus it set me up happy as I then jogged across the street for the epic bluegrass jam at Station Inn.

Location: Gertie's Bar, Nashville
